My birthday

After a ripper pub crawl around Southern Cross, we had a relaxing sleep in before hitting the road for our drive to Kalgoorlie.

After a nice easy drive, we were in the Goldfields capital city Kalgoorlie or Kals to the locals and got a room for the night at the Tower hotel.

Inside The Tower hotel for our first old beer to quest the thirst before hitting the main street for a nice beer walk for yours Trulys birthday.

Our second pub for the day's journey along the legendary Hannan Street was The Kalgoorlie Hotel, back in its day this old pub cost £17,000 to build, equivalent to $2.93 million bucks in 2022. The hotel opened in December 1897 and has a whopping forty-four bedrooms... crikey.

Inside the back bar, which is a bit rough in places, but this is The Kal and just having air-con is nice, so a pub looking a bit rough is what you'd expect in this town.

Found the misses in the beer garden after having a gander around the pub, and again it's rough and ready but again it's what we expected around this old Goldfields town. And I reckon this place would be going off on a weekend night

Our next port of call is the legendary Exchange Hotel, which was built in 1900 for the Wilkie Brothers. And has taken pride and place as one of the best tourist attractions on Hannan street.

Me and the misses in the front bar of the Exchange hotel ready for a big ripper feed for my birthday.

Me and my mate Ned just hanging out before my tucker gets cooked.

And yes, the pub still has there skimpys and between me and you I think Tania got a photo with a better model, I actually don't know how I got lumbed with bloody Ned.

Well, if Tania got the Skimpy, and I got a black and creamy.... truthly not what you'd call an equal trade off, but that's life and at least I can wrap my laughing gear around my win. And I think she won this round of pool which made us one all.

And the pub had my favourite beer so you could say I had my cake and eat it, talking about cake the misses organised with the skimpy to surprise me with a little cake with a candle and sang happy birthday for me... Oh and I got a cuddle, so there you go.

The pubs side bar and yes if you drive thought Kalgoorlie you have to make this pub a stop-off on your trip.

After a big Parmi feed, we made our way further up Hannan Street to the Federal Hotel, which has been an icon in the Kalgoorlie pub scene for over 100 years. Situated at the top of the main Kalgoorlie thoroughfare, on the historical Hannan's St, and next door to the biggest Goldfields Museum in the region.

Inside the pub we settled into a few games of pool in the back bar sinking a nice cold beer, the pub has been updated nicely and has actually a bigger back bar area then where we were, but this one was nearest the bar.

And isn't the pool table top notched and it was even better as I took a lead over the misses in the pool comp, and don't the old brickwork on the wall look just bloody fantastic... Love the old brick walls.

Now we had a longest walk back along Hannan street to our last pub for the night, as you can see the photo was taken in the daylight but the misses was hungry and the kitchen was closed. So, we took this photo and decided to walk back up to the next pub, and we would come back later during the night.

And after a ripper night walking along Hannan street we walked into a real special York Hotel, where every wall has some sort of sporting memorabilia matched with telly's with every type of sport showing... I was in heaven.

At the back bar area, the misses found an old Galaxy machine and settled straight in for as many games she could squeeze out of it, so with her having some fun I walked around to have a gander.

And I found the holy grail! A photo of the King himself up on a wall, my most loved racehorse Kingston Town, I can't believe the old girl can still be found up on a pub wall just goes to show that the owner must know he's horses.

And what about the grand old staircase up to the next floor, this old pub was built 1900/01 by John Crothers and was designed as a two-storey building in the Federation Anglo-Dutch style by architect Daniel T. Edmunds.

The view from the balcony that gives you a good look down Hannan Street, so I just sat back and enjoyed a nice warm breeze as I sipped my cold Lagar.

And just as we were leaving, we got a fella to take a photo off us and I reckon he took a bloody ripper. Then we walked along Hannan street and turned onto Maritana Street for our walk to our place for the night, we didn't have any problem on our walk but to be honest I haven't seen so many police in my life. Fairdinkum we must have seen at least twenty cop cars and vans past us during our walks, and at least twenty coppers on walkabout. But we had a ripper night, and it was a great birthday.
