Ellendale Pool just out of the township of Walkaway is where we camped for the night. Fair dinkum, it was blacker than Ernie Dingo's asshole when we got there. Then in the morning, I wake up to this... Well, I'm not talking about Jacko hanging onto the side of his tank... Well, okay, Jacko is hanging onto the side of his tank, but that's not what I'm actually talking about. It was the bloody ripper big rock and a pool next to it. Oh yeah, I knew it was here... somewhere in the dark! But I didn't know the bastards were actually just there... outside my friggin' tent. Bloody lucky I didn't go walkabout to get some firewood! Now that would be a funny story.

Bloody hell, the bloody pub's shut in Walkaway! Crikey, it's only eight bloody thirty, and it doesn't take too much effort to open a bloody door. Oh well, that'll teach me to get up too early.

ree

After a long bloody beer less drive from our campsite down to Dondara where we stopped for a bloody ripper fish n' chips, and onwards towards a pub that might be open.

Crikey, talk about doing it tough! But anyway, we have driven into Jurien Bay and straight to the Sandpiper Tavern... Almost home.

Shes a nice little pub which is pretty close to the beach and inside it had this old pub feel.

ree

The day is definitely improving ... we just stopped by Kakka Alley Brewing Co in Jurien Bay. What a fantastic little setup (it reminds me of the corporate box back home). I think I've found my favourite spot.

ree

Kakka Alley Brewing Co is a new microbrewery situated in the light industrial area just north of Jurien Bay. Brewing of our very own beer has begun, and the wait is nearly over till we’re pouring our range of beer!

ree

Exploring Kakka Alley offers an immersive experience. Each item, inspired by the coastal surroundings, is thoughtfully chosen and carries its own story. The bartenders are eager to chat and share their local insights, including the origin of the brewery's name.

One bargirl said, 'In the past, there was a brisk business in undersized crays, and the fisheries department would visit the town once or twice a year. Without mobile phones or any means to alert the fishermen about their presence, the women would hang a white sheet on the line as a signal to warn those at sea not to bring in undersized crays that day.'

These small crayfish were colloquially referred to as ‘kakka’, and a street close to the brewery served as the main route to the boats. This street was dubbed Kakka Alley.

Next on the agenda is the Cervantes Tavern, which offers a view of the charming IGA store. However, the draw for me is the pool table and cold beer on ice. The pool competition between Jacko and the Osk stands at 6 to 5, with the Osk in the lead. Go young fella!

ree

After the pool match, we settled into the beer garden and enjoyed that view to IGA, oh and the odd sheila walking by...

ree

That's the turnoff to the world-famous Pinnacles, and when you see they charge a whopping $27 for a family car, that's probably as close as the kids will get. Let's be honest, that's the same price as two pints and a coke! Honestly, you have to teach your kids early in life to get their priorities right.

The Lancelin Sands pub is a welcome sight after a long 80 kilometres without a drink. I really love the pub, but it feels like you need to be a mountaineer to climb those steps! I think I might have pulled a hamstring getting up there... But the reward at the end was a beautiful sight: a nice black and creamy waiting for me.

ree

The boys enjoying the view from the beer garden as we watched the Chinese tourists wondering about out near the beach.

ree

What a wonderful sight

ree

The iconic Endeavour Inn in Lancelin, and once more, there are more stairs! What's with this place? Anyway, this might be our final pub stop on an epic camping journey, as we were almost back home but we did still have some light...

ree

Oscar getting us a beer from the ripper old bar.

ree

And the pool comp was getting a bit nasty as thay finished with it a draw with possibly one more pub to go....

ree

Crikey yes, we discovered another pub... Nearly home, but this stop is the Seabird Tavern. Honestly, they must have stayed up all night coming up with that name...

ree

You know you're coming to an end of a day's drinking when you look at a photo and think that's a ripper, but as you can see it was a bit of a shocker.

ree

By the way, Oscar ended up winning the pool competition by just one win. It was pretty close, and if we had gone to another pub, I bet Jacko would have reclaimed it. But this was our last drinking hole for the trip, as yours truly was about as stuffed as you can get. Fairdinkum four days of driving, drinking, eating and sight-seeing as far North as we could get in four days. After drinking in eighteen pubs this poor old sod was looking forward to sleeping in a nice warm bed, maybe a glass of water and it would be 'Goodnight the fox'....

What a trip.
